در مراسمی که عصر پنجشنبه ششم ژوئن (۱۶ خرداد) در پاریس برپا شد، اصغر فرهادی در شهرداری مرکزی این شهر مدال ارزشمند «ورمی» (Vermeil Medal) را از دست شهردار پاریس، «برتران دلانوئه»دریافت کرد. شهردار پاریس در این مراسم درباره فرهادی گفت: «او مردی است که جامعه ایرانی و ظرافت‌های فرهنگی این جامعه را به شکل جذابی به ما نشان داد.» دلانوئه سپس خطاب به فرهادی گفت: «تو نه‌تنها ما را با فیلم‌هایت آشنا کردی بلکه تو کسی هستی که کارهایت ارزش جهانی دارد. کارهای تو مرا یاد جمله‌ای از ویکتور هوگو می‌اندازد» ژانر آدم‌هایی که به گردن پاریس حق دارند «سینمای تو چیزهایی که در پاریس وجود دارد را هم دربرمی‌گیرد.» اصغر فرهادی هم در این مراسم در پاسخ به شهردار از او به خاطر همکاری بسیارش در جریان فیلمبرداری فیلم «گذشته» در حومه پاریس تشکر کرد و گفت: «من پاریس را برای فیلمبرداری انتخاب کردم چون فکر می‌کنم بعد از ایرانی‌ها، مردم پاریس بستر فیلم‌های مرا می‌شناسند. سینما باعث شد من خودم را در پاریس خارجی احساس نکنم»
این مراسم در حاشیه کنفرانس خبری جشنواره فیلم پاریس با حضور عوامل فیلم ازجمله علی مصفا بازیگر، مریم نراقی دستیار و تدوینگر فیلم حضور داشتند. اهدای مدال‌هایی به نام اندیشمندان و فرهیختگان فرهنگی جهان، چند سالی است از سوی دولت فرانسه و شهرداری پاریس برای تقدیر از چهره‌های فرهنگی و هنری جهان مرسوم بوده است. ازجمله این نشان‌ها می‌توان به نشان مولانا یا رومی و نشان ابن‌سینا اشاره کرد که در چند سال گذشته به برخی از هنرمندان صاحب‌سبک اهدا شده است. «مدالیوم ورمی» یکی از مدال‌های مهم شهر پاریس است. این مدال به افرادی اعطا می‌شود که در آثارشان تصویر واقعی از پاریس نشان دهند. این مدال که تاکنون به چهره‌هایی چون جین فوندا اهدا شده؛ هر سال در ماه ژوئن در آستانه تابستان به چهره‌های مهم فرهنگی داده می‌شود. مدال «ورمی» از سال ۱۹۱۴ در پاریس توسط شهردار این شهر اهدا می‌شود. اهدای این نشان عالی به اصغر فرهادی به‌عنوان هنرمندی که توانسته فرهنگ و هنر ایران را در یکی، دو سال گذشته به جهانیان نمایش دهد و در کشوری چون فرانسه فیلمسازی کند، از اهمیت زیادی برخوردار است و ویترین افتخارات او را پربارتر می‌کند.
او در فیلم«گذشته» پاریسی را به نمایش گذاشته که توریستی نیست و شکل واقعی این شهر زیبا بوده است. فرهادی در نشست خبری فیلم هم در این مورد توضیح داده بود: «من خانه‌ای در حومه پاریس و بسیار نزدیک به ریل قطار می‌خواستم که کاملا قدیمی باشد. چون این دو فاکتور باعث می‌شدند که گذشته در فیلم حضور داشته باشد و همیشه قطار نشانه‌ای از گذشته است. عامدانه می‌خواستم خارج از پاریس باشیم چون نمی‌خواستم اسیر معماری پاریس شوم. یافتن چنین خانه‌ای مشکل بود و بسیار طول کشید اما در نهایت طراح صحنه‌ام توانست خانه‌ای را که نزدیک ریل قطار باشد، پیدا کند و دقیقا همانی بود که می‌خواستم. من معتقدم که این تنها خانه در جهان است که این ویژگی‌ها را دارد. البته در شهر زیبا هم ریل قطار در نزدیکی خانه بود اما از این جنس که نشان‌دهنده گذر زمان بود، نبود.»
فرهادی که در یکی، دو سال گذشته و بعد از افتخاراتی که با فیلم «جدایی نادر از سیمین» در سطح بین‌المللی کسب کرد؛ فیلم «گذشته» را ساخت که یکی از گزینه‌های اصلی جایزه نخل طلای کن بود. این فیلم هرچند با وجود نظر موافق منتقدان تنها جایزه بهترین بازیگر زن را کسب کرد، قرار است چهارشنبه ۲۲خرداد در تهران، در گروه سینمایی آفریقا اکران شود. علی سرتیپی مدیرعامل شرکت فیلمیران درباره آخرین وضعیت این فیلم به ایسنا گفت: «پروانه نمایش نهایی «گذشته» را روز شنبه ۱۸ خرداد پیگیری خواهم کرد و مشکل خاصی برای اکران این فیلم وجود ندارد. با توجه به موافقت وزیر محترم فرهنگ و ارشاد اسلامی و رییس سازمان سینمایی، پروانه فیلم را شنبه دریافت خواهم کرد و اکران از چهارشنبه ۲۲ خرداد با ۱۵ سینما در تهران در گروه سینمایی «آفریقا» آغاز می‌شود. فیلم همزمان در شهرستان‌ها نیز به نمایش درمی‌آید و پیش‌بینی می‌کنیم استقبال خوبی شود.» این پخش‌کننده، فروش «گذشته» را در فرانسه فوق‌العاده عنوان کرد و گفت: احتمال می‌رود این فیلم پرفروش‌ترین فیلم سال فرانسه شود و با توجه به اینکه «گذشته» یک فیلم کاملا ایرانی است و شخصیت ایرانی آن، که علی مصفا آن را بازی می‌کند بسیار کامل‌تر از شخصیت‌های فرانسوی فیلم است، این استقبال فرانسوی‌ها قابل توجه است. سرتیپی از نمایش این فیلم با زبان فرانسه و زیرنویس فارسی در ایران خبر داد.
همزمان با جشنواره فیلم کن قرار بود در دو سانس جدیدترین ساخته اصغر فرهادی برای اهالی رسانه اکران شود اما به دلیل اینکه نسخه موجود اصلاحاتی نیاز داشت، به نمایش درنیامد. گفتنی است اصغر فرهادی قرار است در جشنواره سینمایی پاریس که از ۲۸ ژوئن تا ۹ ژوییه برپا می‌شود، میهمان افتخاری باشد. شارلوت رامپلینگ، مدیریت این جشنواره را بر عهده دارد. ۲۹ ژوییه نیز سالن لوکسور پاریس برنامه‌ای تحت عنوان مروری بر آثار فرهادی ارایه خواهد داد.
